In
September 2001 the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) formed
an Electronic Mapping Section under the Information Technology Unit
which creates maps, integrates valuable information, and visualizes
scenarios. DJS utilizes this mapping capability in its established
Statewide Management Accountability Process (SMAP) and Management
for Results (MFR). The Electronic Mapping Unit also produces maps
according to DJS needs that incorporate data from various DJS and
other state and local databases.
DJS
works closely with other state agencies through Maryland State Geographic
Information Committee (MSGIC), Governor's Office of Crime Control
and Delinquency Prevention, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA),
and local agencies to efficiently and effectively work with young
people and their families.
The
Unit is funded by Grant JAIB-2000-1014 by the Governor's Office of
Crime Control and Prevention.
