Q: "How do I apply for a job at the Department of Juvenile
Services?"
A: To apply for a position with DJS, a Maryland
State Employment Application must be received or postmarked by the closing
date of the position applied for. Further instructions can be found on each job
announcement.

Q: "Where can I obtain a Maryland State Employment Application?"
A: You may download the MS-100 (Application for State
Employment) in pdf format or
as a Word document. You
may also pick up an application from our office at One Center Plaza, 120 W. Fayette
Street, Baltimore, Maryland, or from the Office of Personnel Services and Benefits
Recruitment Center at 300 W. Preston Street, Baltimore, Maryland.
Back to Questions
Q: "May I mail you my application?"
A: Yes. However, applications are only accepted in
response to a current DJS job opening posted on our web site. Applications must
be postmarked or received at the address specified on the job announcement no
later than the closing date for that position. Applications may be photocopied
but must contain an original signature.
Back to Questions
Q: "What happens after I mail in my application?"
Your application will be reviewed to determine whether you
meet the Minimum Qualifications, including any Selective Qualifications, other
special requirements or limitations. If you do meet the qualifications and the
position is in Management Service, Executive Service, a Special Appointment or
Contractual position, you may receive subsequent communication from the hiring
manager. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be selected
for an interview.
For some classifications in Skilled and Professional Service,
you are required to take a written test. Generally, these tests are scheduled
once a year. If test information is not included in the job announcement, you
will be sent information about when and where the test will be given. For other
classifications, your qualifications on the State Application (MS-100) are reviewed
and scored or we may send you a questionnaire that asks you to provide additional
information about your training and experience.
If your education and experience do not meet the minimum qualifications, including any selective qualifications or other specified requirements, your application will be disapproved. You will be notified that the application has been rejected and provided an opportunity to appeal the disapproval and provide additional information regarding how you meet the necessary qualifications.
Back to Questions
Q: "What is the next step after I've taken a test?"
A: A Notice of Test Results will be sent all applicants
informing them of their status on the eligible list of candidates. A passing score
from the written test, or the evaluation of training and experience, will rank
an applicant as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified. The eligible list
will remain in effect for at least one year and will be used to contact applicants
for an interview for the Department of Juvenile Services vacant position.
