Food of the Month 

Each month, Department of Juvenile Services Director of Food and Nutrition Patricia Faught and her staff develop a Food of the Month theme for Juvenile Services food managers in the facility cafeterias. The purpose of the Food of the Month is to promote nutrition within department youths' diet. This food item is chosen based on consideration of and correlation to the traditions of different ethnic Heritage Months.

Food of the Month for March 2018 – Bananas

The Dietary Guidelines and My Plate promote choosing brightly colored fruits and vegetables. Choose colorful green, red, yellow, and orange fruits and vegetables to get the nutrients your body needs. One delicious yellow fruit to include in your diet is bananas. Wonderfully sweet with firm and creamy flesh, bananas come prepackaged in their own yellow jackets and are available for harvest throughout the year. Bananas are packed with nutrients, including potassium, B6, folate, and Vitamin C.
