Food of the Month ​

Each month, Department of Juvenile Services Director of Food and Nutrition Patricia Faught and her staff develop a Food of the Month theme for Juvenile Services food managers in the facility cafeterias. The purpose of the Food of the Month is to promote nutrition within department youths' diet. This food item is chosen based on consideration of and correlation to the traditions of different ethnic Heritage Months.

Food of the Month - November 2018

Corncobs 

November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. This month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories, and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. One of the traditional foods is corn or maize. Corn was eaten in many different ways including corn on the cob, popcorn, hominy, tortillas, and corn breads baked in clay ovens. Corn or maize is high in carbohydrates, protein, and fiber, and has valuable vitamins and minerals.

Celebrate Native American Indian Heritage Month by trying some corn recipes during November!
